What really matters to you
Hi Reader,
Today is Day 4 of our fall membership drive in honor of our 22nd anniversary this week, and I feel obligated to thank you for sticking around. (I know you didn’t subscribe to this email list to receive daily emails like this from me, but just a few more days and we’ll be done!)
That said, the reason for these emails is important: we’re trying to establish a sustainable source of revenue that will allow us to continue reporting about the topics you care about.
How do we know what really matters to you? We ask! And you tell us with your responses and your readership habits.
It’s why three years ago we applied to become part of a groundbreaking program called Report for America, through which (upon acceptance) we were able to hire a full-time education reporter – our first-ever full-time reporter.
You told us repeatedly that coverage of education matters to you, and we stepped up to provide it.
We’re fortunate that in year two of this partnership, RFA continues to provide a partial funding match to help pay the salary of our newest education reporter, Liana Hardy.
But we need your help to earn that match.
Since joining us two months ago, Liana already has provided a wealth of important education coverage, including a series of articles about problems with air conditioning in Henrico schools; a first-hand look at new weapons scanners in county high schools; a deep dive into a summer ESL program that’s helping immigrant students; a look at the new adult education center at Regency mall; and much more.
Has our education coverage helped inform you about what’s happening in Henrico schools? If so, I hope you’ll consider making a contribution today to support Liana’s position. She’s among a small group of full-time education reporters in Virginia – the only one in Henrico – and we’re fortunate to have her.
Your contribution, through RFA, is 100% tax-deductible!
And today only, when you contribute $22 or more to help fund our education coverage, you’ll receive a $25 gift card to Les Crepes restaurant in Henrico’s West End AND be entered for a chance to win a $135-gift certificate to Tialma Moirai Day Spa in the West End.
Thank you, in advance, for your consideration and support!
Yours in community,
Tom Lappas, publisher
P.S. – All week, whenever you make a contribution of any amount to the Citizen, you’ll be entered in a drawing for one of several larger prizes at the end of the week.
