What if we didn't exist?
Hi Henrico neighbor,
Don't panic! We're not planning to go anywhere. But have you ever considered what you wouldn't know about Henrico County if the Henrico Citizen no longer existed?
The collapse of local news nationwide is a crisis that threatens to undermine communities. Once we lose track of the actions our government is taking, the work of nonprofits in our county, or the achievements of local students and natives, the fibers that connect us fray.
Just this week, we’ve brought you insightful, nonpartisan coverage of these Henrico stories, among many others:
• Henrico teen enters guilty pleas in Bremer killing
• Henrico County Sports and Event Center now under roof
• Henrico plans solar panel installation at closed landfill site
• Henrico to receive first payment from opioid manufacturer as part of settlement
• Henrico supervisors approve controversial Arcadia development in Varina
• HCAN seeks more prominent role in community
For more than 21 years, the Citizen has been the news source of record for Henrico County – trusted, fair and consistent, helping to inform our community, free of charge to readers. There’s much more we want to do. But producing high-quality journalism costs money, and with advertising revenues down dramatically nationwide, we must rely upon community support now more than ever before in order to sustain our efforts.
As you think about the role the Henrico Citizen plays in your daily life – and in your personal level of knowledge about the place you call home – we hope you will consider making a donation – of any amount – to our newsroom. We need your support.
If you believe in and value our work, will you chip in today?
Support our community-funded newsroom. Give now if you’re able.
Yours in community,
Tom Lappas, publisher
