The email you've been waiting to read
Hi Reader,
It’s a rainy Saturday night, and I suspect that when you sat down to check your email just now, you did so hoping to find a sixth message from me in the past six days. Well, you’re in luck: here it is!
In all seriousness, I’m writing to express my sincere thanks to the 109 readers who have contributed so far to the Henrico Citizen this week as part of our fall membership drive and 22nd anniversary celebration. It’s very humbling to have the financial support of citizens from throughout our county and to hear from many of them about why they decided to give.
“I believe in excellent local journalism, and the Henrico Citizen embodies that,” one wrote.
“I am a Chesterfield County citizen with no more local newspaper. Hope Henrico keeps theirs,” another wrote.
“I moved to RVA about two years ago and discovered the Henrico Citizen a couple of months ago,” another wrote. “It’s been a local lifeline for me ever since. You are doing great work, so keep it up!”
One-hundred percent of the money we raise this week will be used to fund the type of local journalism that we work hard to produce – and that this community requires of us. In many cases, the topics we cover would not be covered at all, by anyone, if we didn’t exist – meaning Henrico citizens would be uninformed about key topics affecting their daily lives.
Among the other notes we received from donors:
“I appreciate the Henrico Citizen for its local, straightforward journalism.”
“I’m happy to help the Henrico Citizen continue its mission.”
“You are doing the Henrico community a great service. I’ll make another contribution before year end.”
“I enjoy your coverage and am happy to contribute.”
“Thank you and your fine staff for all that you do for news gathering in Henrico County.”
“I appreciate what you and your team do.”
“You all put out a very good [digital] paper in a difficult time for all media.”
If you feel the way some of these readers do, I hope you’ll consider clicking the image below and adding your contribution as we wrap up this anniversary week. My staff and I are grateful for your readership and would be honored to have your support.
Everyone who gives at least $10 this weekend will receive a token of our appreciation in the form of a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
Yours in community,
Tom Lappas, publisher
P.S. – All week, whenever you make a contribution of any amount to the Citizen, you’ll be entered in a drawing for one of several larger prizes at the end of the week.
