The articles we can’t write
Dear Citizen reader,
Have you ever wished we covered more of what’s happening throughout Henrico County? Are there stories or topics that you think are important but we that we haven’t reported about?
We get it. Each day, there are many important things happening in our county that we want to cover. Unfortunately, we can’t. We are a company of four people, only two of whom are involved with coverage. And though we are excited that this summer, we will again have a full-time education reporter joining our staff, we’ll still face a void in our ability to cover our entire community as thoroughly as we (and you) would like.
We think true democracy and civic engagement require knowledge.
It bothers us when we can’t cover decisions by the board of supervisors in greater detail, or profile more volunteers who are doing meaningful work, or provide more thorough perspective about topics like housing, transportation, crime or mental health.
This is a big county, and its citizens deserve as complete an understanding of its challenges, successes, failures and opportunities as possible. We want to provide that for you – but we need your help to fund that work.
Will you help support this community by supporting the Citizen today?
Yours in community,
Tom Lappas, publisher
