Support journalism that connects this community
Today is the start of the Henrico Citizen’s spring membership drive. During the next several weeks, I’ll be writing regularly to share information about the Citizen, what we endeavor to do each day, and our vision for the future. I hope you won’t object to a few extra emails during this time!
And I’ll be direct: I hope this drive will convince you to become a paid member of our Citizen Collective.
Why? It’s simple: We need you.
We need your readership and your financial support to continue doing the work we do – and to expand our coverage to more of the topics you’ve told us matter to you – specifically: government, education, housing, health, and transportation.
Membership at either $75 or $150 annually entitles you to benefits – including, at the higher level, the chance to designate a nonprofit to receive 15 days of free advertising with us. (If you’d prefer to pay in monthly installments, simply select that option.)
But the most significant benefit, I believe, is the knowledge that your contribution will help fund more coverage of Henrico news while enabling us to keep all of that coverage free for everyone to read. We believe access to local news is a fundamental human right, and we’re determined never to charge for our coverage, if we can help it.
Why does local journalism matter?
You’re already a Citizen reader, so I probably don’t need to tell you. But I like to think that the news we report, the events we spotlight, the dean’s lists and team photographs and business achievements we publish all add up to something important: a stronger, more connected community.
Because although there are many things that can divide us, the truth is that there are even more that can connect us.
I hope you’ll agree with me that we can’t afford to lose one of the ties that bind us together – our source of trustworthy local news.
Will you join our community today?
Yours in community,
Tom Lappas, publisher
P.S. – Join the Citizen Collective today and (while supplies last) we’ll send you two free tickets to the Saturday, April 8 Richmond Flying Squirrels game on Opening Weekend!
