Henrico teachers union calls for clear, consistent safety protocols from division leadership
Presidents of teachers unions in Henrico, Richmond and Chesterfield called on their school divisions to put health and safety first, as Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s executive order (which rescinds the K-12 mask mandate) took effect Monday.
“The lack of consistent policies around masks, testing and (school) closures puts lives at risk — especially the lives of disabled, immunocompromised and vulnerable members of our community,” said Henrico Education Association President Patrick Miller during a news conference Monday morning outside the Richmond Education Association’s office in Richmond.
Cashwell: Henrico Schools’ mask rules are not a political stance
Henrico Superintendent Amy Cashwell Saturday morning spoke publicly for the first time about Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s executive order that terminates the statewide mask mandate for K-12 schools. It’s an order that school system officials announced last week will not trump the school system’s existing policy requiring masks for everyone in its buildings.
