Henrico Schools’ weapons scanners cause delays, mixed reactions from community
It’s a little past 8:30 a.m. on a Tuesday, and the line of students outside Mills E. Godwin High School is beginning to grow exponentially, wrapping around the side of the building, with hundreds of students waiting to pass through the new weapons detection scanners placed at the main entrance.
Getting a student through the scanners takes only a few seconds, but the alarm goes off almost every minute, activated by items such as laptops, water bottles, phone chargers, three-ring binders, and even spiral notebooks. Click here to read more
Henrico families are benefiting from this program that helps make child-care affordable
Henrico County is witnessing a surge of interest in a state program that makes child care more affordable for qualifying, low-income parents and caregivers who are working, seeking employment or going to school.
A total of 1,765 Henrico families were served through the Child Care Subsidy Program in June, according to the Henrico Department of Social Services. That represents an increase of 161% from 2021. Click here to read more
