Henrico School Board elects Atkins as chair
Alicia Atkins will not only serve as the Henrico School Board’s chair for 2024, but also as the first Black woman to be elected to the position.
The Varina District representative became the first Black woman to serve on the board when she was first elected in 2019, as well as the first Black woman to serve on board leadership when she became vice-chair last year. New marker commemorates history of Sandston fire tower
Members of the Association for the Preservation of Henrico Antiquities gathered Jan. 7 in Sandston to unveil a new tabletop marker that commemorates the history of the Meadows Fire Tower on Williamsburg Road.
The tower is the last of two located in the county that previously were used as fire lookouts. Today, the Meadows tower holds communications equipment. It sits on the property of the Antioch School Community Center at 5650 Elko Road. Click here to read more
