Henrico considers 2% tourism improvement district tax
Henrico supervisors are poised to join other Richmond-area localities by enacting a tourism improvement district that would levy a 2% tax on hotel rooms at hotels with more than 41 rooms. The money raised through the fee – anticipated to total $8.2 million in the first year – must be used to expand visitation and hotel occupancy through marketing and sales efforts as well as incentives for events like sports tournaments and conventions to be held in the area, according to the proposal’s language.
Four Mile Creek Trailhead to receive water, restroom facilities
Four Mile Creek Trailhead in Varina soon will have restroom facilities and water, according to the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation’s Trail Mix newsletter.
Construction on water and sewer infrastructure is slated to begin in spring and last an estimated 90 days. Updates on progress at the popular Henrico turnaround spot for riders out of Richmond (and popular parking spot for riders heading further east) will be posted online at virginiacapitaltrail.org/trailalerts.
