New Market Heights battlefield named one of Virginia’s most endangered historic sites

The New Market Heights Battlefield in Varina has been named one of the most endangered historic sites in Virginia by Preservation Virginia.

Each year, the organization releases a list of state historic places that it believes face “imminent or sustained threats to their integrity” as a way to encourage citizens, organizations and local and state governments to advocate for those spots and offer solutions for their preservation, according to PV officials.

Second shooting in 24 hours near Staples Mill Road leaves one dead

A woman died in a shooting at a Henrico apartment complex Tuesday morning – just blocks away from the location of a shooting Monday morning.

Tuesday’s shooting took place in the 7600 block of Beth Road in the Abbington West End apartment complex, just off Staples Mill Road not far from Glenside Drive, happened shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday.
