Help fund our in-depth coverage of education in Henrico County
Dear Citizen reader,
We know how much education matters to you – you’ve told us directly. And that’s why we are excited to welcome a new full-time education reporter to our staff next month.
Liana Hardy will join us as a Report for America corps member, and her sole focus will be on reporting the education stories that matter to you. Got an idea about something you’d like her to cover? You can send her an email now at liana@henricocitizen.com so that she’ll have it once she joins us July 10.
We were the second Virginia newsroom selected to participate in Report for America when we hired our first reporter through the program two years ago. Now we’re excited to renew the type of original, in-depth coverage that you came to expect from us then – but we need your help to do that.
Today, we’re launching a crowdfunding effort to support Liana’s position.
Every TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation you make will be matched in part by Report for America!
At a time when many news outlets are eliminating jobs, we’re excited to be adding an important one – but we can’t provide this coverage without you.
We’re calling on everyone in the community who values this type of work to help fund it. Do you value transparency? Accountability? Freedom of the press?
If you do, your contribution will be matched in part by Report for America, a national journalism service program that places journalists into local newsrooms with just one goal: to serve their communities. In 2023, RFA will help sponsor more than 300 reporters in newsrooms nationally – including ours.
We appreciate your support of independent, impact journalism.
Yours in community,
Tom Lappas, publisher
