Family of former Short Pump MS football player settles lawsuit against Henrico Schools
A federal lawsuit filed against the Henrico County School Board and other school officials was settled last month – almost four years after a 12-year-old student at Short Pump Middle School was allegedly sexually battered and tormented with racial slurs on school grounds.
The boy, who is referred to as “DJ” in the lawsuit, was a seventh-grader at Short Pump Middle School and played on the school’s football team when the incident occurred Oct. 13, 2017.
Masks to be optional in Henrico schools this fall
Henrico County Public Schools officials announced to staff and families on Tuesday that masks will be optional for the 2021-2022 school year.
“While we encourage mask-wearing for those not fully vaccinated, we respect that mask-wearing is currently an individual’s choice,” the policy reads.
