Do I know you?
Hi reader,
As far as I know, I’m no psychic. Actually, I guess not knowing for sure confirms that I’m not one. But, I think I know a few things about you.
You read the Henrico Citizen because you care what’s happening around you. Your life is busy but you’ll make a little time to learn more about your county. You moved here or have stayed here for some specific reasons. You care how your tax dollars are being spent. You enjoy trying new restaurants around town, taking your family to weekend events and maybe even volunteering for some local organizations.
You’ve thought about donating to support our work but haven’t because you didn’t have the time (understandable), forgot (you are getting older), didn’t make the time (I forgive you), already subscribe to another news outlet or two (you’re cheating on us?!), believe all journalists should work for free (I kid!), don’t donate to any news organization that hasn’t been around for at least 24 years (but we’re SO close…), can’t stand my attempts at humor (get in line), figured we were doing fine since we keep sending you emails every day (it’s thanks to your neighbor’s donation last year) or for any number of other perfectly legitimate reasons.
I get it.
But, in all seriousness, I also know that you would be disappointed if the Citizen didn’t exist. You know that trustworthy local news matters, and you believe this community would be a little worse off without us.
Does this sound like you? We need your help.
Every dollar you contribute to the Citizen goes directly to fund our local journalism. We use it to pay the salaries of our employees, pay freelance journalists or pay costs associated with the reporting we do, like filing Freedom of Information Act requests.
Your support is critical to us.
We have no corporate owner. We’re not publicly traded. No one is getting rich here.
We’re just doing our very best five days a week to bring you the most comprehensive coverage of your community that we can. We want to keep doing it – and add new, consistent coverage you’ve requested about housing, health and transportation issues.
Together, with your help, we can do this.
Yours in community,
Tom Lappas, publisher
