Death to pop-ups
Hi reader,
Let’s get right to it: I hate popups. You probably do too. Our website uses them, so by extension, perhaps you also hate me.
There’s nothing I would like more on this, the week of the Henrico Citizen’s 23rd anniversary, than to turn off forever those pop-ups that ask for your email address or a donation. The only problem: they actually work.
Thousands of you now receive our daily weekday email because you signed up from a pop-up. Hundreds of you now support our local journalism with a monthly, annual or one-time donation because you clicked through when prompted. And since we don’t charge for any of our coverage, that support is critical to our ability to keep doing this work.
Still, I want what you want: Death to pop-ups!
We could make that happen right now if even half the people who have visited HenricoCitizen.com this year gave just $1. (Really!)
So, if you’ve read our coverage at any point this year and learned something about Henrico, I hope you’ll consider giving a dollar (or any other amount) in support of community, knowledge and local journalism – and the death of pop-ups.
(And if you give at least $23 today, you’ll be entered to win a free 10-minute session at Rage RVA, the region’s first rage room, where you can take out your frustrations on pop-ups or other actual items by smashing them relentlessly!)
Yours in community,
Tom Lappas, publisher
