Apply to join our Citizen Advisory Board or Ambassadors program
Dear Citizen reader,
Are you passionate about Henrico County? Are you an active participant in our community? Are you concerned that issues of importance to you aren’t being covered adequately – or at all – in the local media? Do you have ideas about how to strengthen the community?
Then I’d like to invite you to apply to join the Henrico Citizen’s Citizen Advisory Board or our new Ambassadors program.
• The Citizen Advisory Board (formed in 2021) is a 15-member group of volunteers who seek to contribute to, and help strengthen, the Henrico Citizen’s efforts to serve Henrico County. Members (three from each of the county’s five magisterial districts) will meet monthly in 2023 to provide insight, discuss possible coverage topics and supply feedback about previous coverage, planned future coverage and operational goals, thoughts about issues facing Henrico County in general, and other input.
• The Citizen Ambassadors program (a new creation) will meet every other month in 2023, and members generally will serve as liaisons between the Citizen and individual organizations/hyperlocal communities within Henrico to help strengthen our connection with the community at large and ensure a two-way flow of communication.
Interested? We invite your application, so that we can consider you for membership in either group!
Applicants may be long-time Henrico citizens or relative newcomers, business owners or entry-level workers, homeowners or renters, parents, grandparents, volunteers, coaches, teachers – or anyone in between. We aim to select board members and ambassadors who can provide unique and meaningful perspective about their experiences and lives in Henrico County and in turn help better connect us to their individual communities and spheres of influence.
We also seek a board and ambassadors program that reflect equity and diversity – with members of various races, education levels, political views and occupations, among other unique characteristics.
Please feel free to share this with anyone else whose input you think we should have as part of either group. We want our board and ambassadors to represent the many faces and facets of Henrico County, and we can't wait to get started.
All the best,
Tom Lappas, publisher
