23 and You (and Us)
Hi reader,
Although I am the son of a retired graduate school science professor and the brother of a science professor, my knowledge of science is limited mostly to my ability to spell it correctly.
But there is this: There are 23 pairs of chromosomes in a human diploid cell, a reality that probably makes the Henrico Citizen’s 23rd anniversary this week our most human one ever. (Whatever that means.)
A big part of what we do at the Citizen is document history in real time.
Every article about a rezoning case, every feature about a community organization, every time we cover a public school initiative, list members of a dean's list or post a photo from a community event – each of those stories or briefs helps tell a piece of Henrico County's history. Weeks, months or years from now, if someone wants to know more about why something happened, they won't have to guess.
That matters.
Without documentation of our history, we're left to wonder. Actions, places and people from our past tend to fade quickly unless someone is there to help tell their stories.
Our history matters, and we think your does too. So today only, when you give at least $23 to help support our local journalism, you'll be entered into a drawing to win an Ancestry Package from 23AndMe.com (a $99 value).
Give today and you might learn more about your own history and that of your ancestors, while supporting the work we're doing to preserve Henrico's – one article at a time.
Yours in community,
Tom Lappas, publisher
